The Great Flood of Banbury

On 21st July 2007, due to intense rain the river and canal in Banbury burst their banks. Living nearby, we were caught up in the action. At 2am the police started evacuating people and emergency sandbags were swiftly provided. The nearby train station looked more like a harbour.

The flooding almost at its worst, with the road upto 2ft deep. Inhabitants could do nothing but watch on, sandwiched between the flooded road and the canal.

Thankfully, we weren't affected too badly although we were sand-bagged in for ~ 12 hours.

The recently modernised canal in town. Flooding had reduced by a couple of feet by the time we were able to get out to see check the rest of Banbury.
